How Do I Become a Freemason?

Our Values

This short article will provide all the facts without the bells and whistles. To become a Master Mason you will have to ask a Master Mason, because a Master Mason will never ask you to join Freemasonry. If you know a Mason then this article ends here. Ask him about Freemasonry. Let him know you want to join!

What if you don't know a Master Mason? Well, you will have to find a lodge/Master Mason to support you. You can do this by looking in the phone book under one of the following: societies, lodges, Freemasonry, Fraternal organizations, etc., until you find a lodge.

No matter which Lodge you call a BROTHER will help you and guide you to submitting your application. If you prefer to be in one Lodge or the other, ask the Brother.

What is a petition and what happens when it is submitted?

Most men do not understand the process of getting membership in a Masonic Lodge. No one is ever invited to become a mason or to join a Masonic Lodge. Though all morally good men would be welcome in any Masonic Lodge, however, the man himself must ask a mason about becoming a member. Once he has done so, he will be given an application (petition) to complete and he has taken the first step. It is then submitted to the local lodge for processing. The lodge will select a committee to investigate the candidate and report its findings. He must receive unanimous approval of the members.

Having passed the ballot box, the candidate then receives the first of the three degrees which make up the symbolic Lodge. The first degree is the Degree of Entered Apprentice. The second is the Degree of Fellow Craft; the third is the Degree of Master Mason. After he has completed all degrees he is then an accepted member of a great and noble fraternity.

Qualifications to join Freemasonry?

-Have resided in British Columbia or the Yukon for the previous six months.

-Have resided within the jurisdiction of the constituent lodge for the previous six months.

-Be, in clear conscience, able to answer the following questions in the affirmative:

 a) Do you seriously and upon your honour declare that uninfluenced by mercenary or other unworthy motives, and unbiased by the improper solicitations of friends, you freely and voluntarily offer yourself a candidate for the mysteries of Freemasonry?

 b) Do you seriously and upon your honour declare that you are prompted to solicit the privileges of Freemasonry by a favorable opinion conceived of the Institution and a desire for knowledge?

 c) Do you believe in the existence of a Supreme Being?

- You MUST ask to join. (No one will ever ask you to join).

Initiates are required to pay an Initiation Fee. Members are expected to pay Annual Dues and be actively involved in the working of their lodge. This requires a commitment of two to four evenings a month and the effort to study and understand Freemasonry’s philosophy, history, ritual and practices.

As in any society, the member can only get out of it what he puts into it.

 More About Who We Are

Euclid Lodge uses the Canadian Ritual. We are known for our fine ritual work, but more especially for our friendship, warmth and hospitality.

Although our Lodge is relatively small, we are a very active Lodge and we are well known for thinking outside the box.

We hold an annual Corn banquet on the occasion of the Official Visit of our District Deputy Grand Master every September. We also have our Strawberry night which is held at our regular communication in June.

The members of our sister Lodge, Haida No.166 share with us a friendship totem that is exchanged regularly at our installations in March and November.

Our Lodge is very proud of being the proud recipients of the Lodge Excellence Award Program (L.E.A.P.) from Grand Lodge each year. We also rigorously follow the 6-Step program for each of our new initiates which helps our new candidates with any questions they may have prior to joining our beloved fraternity.
